Profile evaluation - Low GMAT, good work ex and GPA [#permalink] New post 01 Oct 2013, 23:26
Hi,
I'd really appreciate if an expert could evaluate my profile and suggest the B-schools that I should target:
Origin : Indian,Female,28

GMAT :680, Q-49,V-35.

Education: Bachelors in Electronics and Communication from IGIT, Delhi
GPA : 76% (top 5 in class of 60)

Work Experience:(DataWarehouse Engineer (software))
Total - 6 years
2 years in Expedia Inc., Seattle
4 years in Dell - 2 years at the offsite center in Noida(India) and 2 years onsite for HPHC in Boston, MA.
Have consistently been a star performer earning multiple awards and accolades.

Extra-Currics:
Organized events in school fests and in my residential complex.

Post MBA Goal: Technology startup.

Please suggest some good b-schools i can aim at. What would be my chances at the top 10 schools? Should I be retaking GMAT to boost my chances at these schools?

Because you are applying from an oversubscribed applicant pool, namely Indian high tech, you should try to bolster your application in any way you can. Certainly one way would be to increase your GMAT score, since it will be below average not only at the top schools, but most certainly also within your peer group. The GPA won't be nearly as important as the GMAT, since the GMAT is a more universal comparison tool. A couple of differentiation points in your profile include being female and having a couple of years of work experience in the US, which will not be nearly as common in your pool. If you can speak to how this experience has given you a deeper insight than the "next person" on the application list, you will be best positioned.

As for which schools you should target, I would say you'd have a good shot at the mid-top tier schools such as those found in the 12-25 ranking range on the BloomberbBusinessWeek list.
