Profile evaluation (MBB consulting, Brazil) [#permalink]
02 Feb 2012, 14:48
Hey guys,
It would be great to get some feedback on my profile. I think it has some highlights but definitely also some weaknesses to overcome.
My main target schools are Booth/Kellogg/Sloan with reach at HBS/Stanford. Does this sound feasible? I also need help choosing a back up school!
Employment:
2 years at Mck/BCG/Bain strategy consulting in Brazil (current, promoted once) - Designed strategy for consumer goods company entering Brazil. Includes market mapping, projections, priorization, target screening and final recommendation of action. - Organizational design and product management at different department of one of the largest Brazilian banks.
2 years in M&A and a Brazilian industrial group (previous, promoted once)
Education:
Ivy League, Political Economy, GPA 3.1 GMAT: 710 (Verbal: 42, 95%. Quant: 46, 73%)
Extracurriculars: - Current Alumni Chair in Brazil for my school, in charge of applicant interviews and events. Grew interview rate from 0 to 60% in one year as chairman. - Started environmental organization in university, which received celebrity/NGO endorsements and got media attention. Eventually went nowhere and failed.

Hello astrochris, thanks for your question. I think those target schools are in reach, and HBS and Stanford would be higher reaches. Your GPA is slightly on the low side, and your GMAT is fine, but I wish that quant score were above 80% - as I’m sure you’ve heard before. You have a good educational and professional pedigree, which is an advantage. And, it’s great that you’ve done consulting and M&A – that should serve you well. I really think your competitiveness at the top programs will come down to the quality of your leadership experience in and out of work. Can you draw upon “moments” when you truly led: influenced individuals and organizations, drove results, took initiative? Can you differentiate yourself from the numerous other consultants and M&A applicants through your stories and experiences? Best of luck, Brian

Best of luck, Brian Thanks Brian! Now that HBS and Columbia have released their essays, I`m starting my apps. Let`s see if I can get those leadership experiences down.
