Profile Evaluation!! Pl help [#permalink] New post 11 Sep 2013, 03:04
Hi,

I am an Indian male, 29 years. I have already completed my MBA from Institute of Management Nirma, Ahmedabad 5 years back. I graduated with a low GPA(2.87/4) and have been working with a major Indian Telecom Brand since and have been handling their IT Operations department for the whole Country for the past three years. Have already been promoted once after my mandatory probation period and expecting my second one pretty soon. The major reason I am considering a second MBA in US or Europe is for a global exposure, which in my present profile looks like a long shot. The Other notable points about my profile are as follows:

1. I have been pretty successful in my current Job and have been won numerous awards at the company level including one from the CIO and one at industry level.
2. I already have an MBA and i understand quite a few schools "discourage' 2nd MBA applications.
3. I am targetting a GMAT score of 720 to offset for my weak Academic performance. Planning to take the GMAT in November this year.
4. I have a decent extracurricular list, (weight lifting enthusiast, Volleyball captain throughout college and university and champion all along, off and on community service)
5. I have a below average undergrad academic performance (58%)
6. I am planning to apply next year in the R1(sep 2014) round.

What are my chances in the Top 10 B-schools(LBS, Sloan, INSEAD etc.) if I get to my taget Gmat Score. Since i have plenty of time, i have decided to spend enoug time researching and writing my Essay to hope for a strong candidacy. What b school Ranks should I be realistically targeting.

Well there Gandalf,

Let me start off by saying that you CAN apply and get in to a second MBA (I've helped a few Indian candidates do just that), but it is HARD! You are right when you write that schools "discourage" second MBAs, and some schools (Duke for example) won't even consider your application.

BUT, it is possible for you to get into a fantastic program. The KEY is in making your story SOLID. Your reasons for getting a second MBA have to be very very tight, and make a lot of sense. Luckily, often the nature of the Indian MBA will help you out (not international, tech-oreinted, etc.).

As for which schools you should actually target, I can't say yet cause I don't yet have a clear idea of your work experience (which looks good, but I still have many question marks - on your achievements, position, leadership, etc.) But I think Top 10 may be stretching it a bit. You have three challenges in your profile: 1. Second MBA 2. Indian/Male/Tech 3. low GPA... and any single of these could make Top 10 difficult. Anyhow, it's better to hold off such thoughts until you get your ACTUAL GMAT.

Good luck!
