Profile evaluation plase (GMAT 640) [#permalink] New post 09 Sep 2010, 14:09
Hi,

I'm female with an IT background working in the US. I have about 6 years of work experience and have been a SW lead for 3 years. I have a bachelors and masters in Computer Science.

GMAT score - 1st attempt 600 (Quants 47/ Verbal 28)
2nd attempt 640 (quants 40/verbal 38)

On the 2nd attempt, I could have done much better on the quants section, but I wasted a lot of time on the first few questions and so had to rush through the rest.

School I want to apply to -

1. UT Austin

Do you think my GMAT score is good enough for UT Austin? The 2nd math score worries me. What do you think my chances are of getting into UT Austin?

Thanks!!

Average GMAT for McComb is 686. So as far as the GMAT score goes, not very promising news. You are below the 50% mark in terms of the GMAT score. HOWEVER, GMAT is only a small piece of the whole application. It really depends on your complete application package. I would suggest, try applying in R1, if you have everything ready for submitting.

There is nothing like a "good enough" GMAT score.

I agree that your GMATscore is an issue and could keep you out of UT.

Best,
Linda

Just to add to my earlier post, a 640 does not necesssarily mean that you can not get in at UT at all. It only means that the slightly below average GMAT score would need to be supported by your work experience and academic performance. Schools, including UT, have a range of scores. I guy/gal got admit to HBS with a 510 !!! 510-and-admitted-to-hbs-how-important-is-gmat-score-100552.html

My point is, a 640 should not keep you from applying. You can very well get admitted to UT, however, I would recommend trying in R1.

Good Luck.
