Hi Alex,
I am currently preparing for my GMAT and am planning on giving the test in early May. I am planning to apply to the top B-Schooks(specialize in Finance/Investment) and get an admit for 2012 fall. I was hoping if you could help me by evaluating my profile and letting me know if my target schools are within my reach or if I am wasting my time by preparing for GMAT.
Target Schools: Tucks, UVA-Darden, HBS, Johnson, Stern, Columbia, Kellogg, Booth
My profile is as follows:
Current Age: 27
Nationality: Indian
GMAT expecting around 670(in worst case scenario with at least 45 in Quant)
Education: Bachelors in Computer Science Engineering from India(with GPA 7/10 - 90th percentile in college)
Masters in Computer Science Engineering from University of New Hampshire(with GPA 3.25/4) - Was awarded full scholarship by my department.
Work Experience:
• 15 months as Sofware Engineer for Equity Trading Group at Fidelity Investments
• 15 months as Senior Software Engineer for Quest Diagnostics.
• Will be 6 months(as of April 2011) as Senior Software Engineer for Future Option trading group in Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
• Did part time work(when graduate school was in progress) and full-time(during summer and winter breaks) for 3yrs at a computer networking related non-profit organization in New Hampshire and grew from Technician to Technical Manager(managed 4 people) of my group. Communicated with all clients(US, Europe, Asia - specifically Japan and Korea) as the manager. My testing group was one of a kind in the entire world at that time. Represented my group at an international event in Finland for one week. Networked with people at Finland's event and brought them together by organizing an international testing event. This event got about $50000 for my group in the organization(which was used for funding other students' education). Was given an opportunity to represent my group in Japan and Portland, Oregon. But I didn't attend those events due to personal reasons.
• Internship as a programmer for 6 months in India.
Extra curricular activities:
• During graduate study, was the president of the indian students association at the university and organized cultural events with an audience of over 300.
During undergraduate study,
• Started a student group in my local college to train students and assist them in job search.
• Actively participated in more than a couple blood donation camps.
• Actively participated in organizing events and rallys to promote AIDS awareness amongst rural indians.
Achievements:
• Received university top score of 100% in Probability and Statistics.
• Was selected amongst 30 students out of 100,000 students to participate in the “Students Knowledge Forum” training conducted by the Institute for Electronic Governance, a venture of the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.
• Received university top score of 99% in Java Programming.
Quant/Statistics/Probability scores were always in the 99th percentile throughout high school.
If my profile is not good enough for my target schools, what can I do to improve and get an admit in my target schools?
If my target schools are way beyond my reach, could you suggest some schools that can be within my reach?
Any response in this regard shall be highly appreciated.
regards,
Sachin
