Work Exp: 2 yrs in marketing at a large retailer (managed $300 million of company inventory and created/managed product assortments)
1.5 yr in corporate strategy at same retailer (worked on growth projects domestically and abroad)

After leaving retailer, chose to teach low-income high school students for past 2 years

LOR: Think I can secure strong letters

Post-MBA: I would love to take my consultative background I built in strategy and education-sector role to launch my own education consultancy after b-school

Target: Duke - love the culture and school itself

Essays: Have written the essays and asked alums for revision/ insights.

My perspective: I know my work experience is a bit diverse, which can cut both ways when it comes to my broader application. I would love to get your perspective on my push for Duke. Not totally certain if Duke is a reach given my background.

Thank you for all the help!

Very nice stuff. You may not realize it but you have a stellar profile. you have things that make the GMAT seem insignificant, not least of which is your graduating valedictorian and constant dedication to others.

I would even say you are Harvard materiel (if you so desire). Be ambitious! Apply to Duke, to schools with strong non-profit programs: Harvard, Yale, Stanford, to Columbia (education program!!)

Anyhow, I wish you all the best. If you need anything else, just click on our link and drop us a line, I'd love to get on of my fellas (or gals) :) to help you out.
