Hello,

Thanks for your inquiry. It looks like you have strong GMAT scores, and a positive progression from undergraduate to your masters degree. The main issues that you will be battling against are your undergraduate performance and the fact that you have non-traditional professional experience for an MBA program.

In terms of your undergrad performance, you’ll need to come up with a story around this. I would think more about the reasons behind this and how you could potentially explain it in an optional essay. You can also focus on proactively addressing this issue by showing positive growth on this front. You could do this by identifying the areas where you were weakest and either describing how you improved in these areas during your masters, or even better, take a supplemental class in these subject areas and score highly (aim for >=90%).

In terms of professional experience, it’s hard to tell from your overview whether you can pull out strong leadership or management stories from your professional experience. Because you have a non-traditional background you’ll want to highly focus on crafting the right application story that shows that you have had relevant and strong experience. It doesn’t have to be the typical business role but it should show that you’ll be able to contribute to your MBA program and transition to your long-term career goals. In that regard, you’ll need to build a more detailed career plan post-MBA. It’s a big industry stretch to move into a hedge fund, so it would benefit you to think through a more specific career goal and then build out a year by year plan that describes you you’ll get from where you are now to that position.

This is something we specialize in at MBA Prep School so let me know if you have questions about our program.

Best,
Krista
