Profile Evaluation Please. [#permalink] New post 20 Jul 2009, 07:52
Hi Alex,

Can you please evaluate my profile? I am thinking of applying for MS in Finance.

Name: Akshay Sogani
DOB: 4th sep 1988
Graduation year: 2010
College: Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT KGP)
Gmat score: 740 (Q:50,v:40) AWA 4.5
GPA: 8/10
12Th: 80%

Achievements

Cleared JEE for admission into IITs which are ranked 3rd worldwide in terms of technical education.
Student member of Institute of Actuaries and have cleared 6 papers.
Member of Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA) and cleared its level 2 with a score of 87%.
Cleared a few certifications from National Stock Exchange.

Please enlighten me on the need of work experience for MSF. I am really concerned, as my degree (Bachelors of Technology) is in totally different field and I have no relevant work experience in the field of Finance.

I am thinking of applying in following colleges for MSF

MIT Sloan,
UIUC,
Hass,
Stanford,
Cornell

Kindly suggest me what schools(not necessarily from above list) should I expect at my level.

Unfortunately, I don't really know much about the Masters in Finance programs. What I do know is that while there are quite a number of folks in these programs that have prior finance experience, it's not required either as far as I know, so your lack of finance-related work experience shouldn't be a huge issue.
