Hi,
First off all thank you for looking at this.
I am looking to apply for top 10 MBA programs but uncertain about where I stand in the ocean of the applicants.
-- I have 3 years of auditing experience at one of a Big 4 Accounting firm and was promoted to Assistant Manager.
-- After that I completed a MSF program at Boston College with a GPA of 3.8 and Beta Gamma Sigma.
-- Then I started my own e-commerce firm with a friend (I am currently the CEO of this firm), the firm is still quite small at this stage (1 employee apart from us) but has sales in all 50 states and is easily searchable on all major search engines. By the time of September 2014, I will have 2 years of experience managing it.
-- I obtained a bachelor's degree overseas, served as vice-president of a student society for two years, nothing else spectacular though....about 3.1 GPA.
-- CFA level II candidate
-- Professional Athlete in China with provincial championship.
-- Haven't taken GMAT but just assume I have a 730 score for now....
The reason I want to do an MBA is I find marketing far more interesting than finance during managing my own firm, and I am more interested in taking care of the marketing part of the business rather than the whole thing (i.e. CEO). So I want to do a MBA and use that to get into the marketing function of big firms.
Do I have a shot at the top 10 programs? Or you believe there is something very wrong with my mind and I should just go out and play in the sun? (^_^)
Thank you very much for your time.
Top 10 programs, with a 73- and 3.8.. sure why not?? Top five schools don't take all that many people from Big four firms (only the top percent or two), so you know where you stand in terms of that better than I. (and you may anyhow want to expand your list to Top 20, which seems to me to be more reasonable).
The big X-factor in your application is what is happening with your firm. I mean, if your firm is doing very well and growing by leaps and bounds and you are gaining great leadership experience, and you can get this across to the AdCom, then this will strengthen your application a LOT, (which translates into more admits from better schools)...
Hope this helps, and if you have any follow-up questions, don't hesitate!
