Hey guardonz,

Thanks for reaching out to me.
Yes, a 740 will be a game changer. I believe that a 700 is a good score given your geographic origin. It's basically a score that won't get you in, but won't keep you out either. But the difference between a 700 and a 740 is money. That's right, cash money. With a 740 you start to hit that threshold where the adcom starts to send money your way. It pays to re-take the test.

You said - I plan to submit all of them are in Jan. Then you followed this up with I plan to submit all of them are in Jan.Think to submit only one as chances are very slim, any suggestion which one has better chance?
With all due respect, that makes no sense to me. What I interpret that to say is that I plan to submit all the following schools in Jan, but only one of the following schools in Jan.

I am not sure if you are saying that you only want to submit your app to one of the schools in your list? I don't think you are asking this question though because the answer is something that you should be able to figure out. But for the sake of being thorough, I know you would certainly have a better chance at a lower ranked school. To be clear, you have a better chance at Tepper than at HBS. But surely, you can't be asking that. Please let me know.

Regardless of what you are asking, I think we need to take a step back. I'll be honest with you, I am a little surprised by your goals. You want to go into consulting or VC? They are not closely related, and that tells me you are not focused enough. Also, you really do not want to be a career changer. The reasons go beyond the what I can explain here. One more huge thing - no one makes a career change into VC. It's not that simple. Venture Capitalists really aren't representative of freshly minted MBAs. To be clear, it is completely unrealistic because you won't have that option, especially as a career changer.

In your post, it would have been critically important to address why you are changing careers (else seeking an MBA to build on your current path.) Additionally, if you are looking at a consulting field that could possibly be viewed as related, you need to stress how your current skills fit to your career goals in a different area or specialty.

This is what I recommend you do - focus on your fit and do considerably more homework on what is a realistic career goal - short and long term. It really doesn't matter what you want to do, but rather what you can do with your MBA. VC is not that. None-the-less, it is not all crying and flower-bringing here. From what I know you will be competitive at most of the top 15 schools. However, it is important to recognize the most underrated aspect of the admissions process, demonstrating fit. I would focus on developing shorter and longer term goals that logically build on your current personal and professional experiences. Remember that failure to clearly articulate these goals and the factors contributing to them are among the most common reasons for rejection.

If you would like to discuss your candidacy further during a complimentary consultation, please email me at mba@amerasiaconsulting.com.

Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti

Thanks for your response Paul.

- Sorry to mess you with that incorrect sentence. My intention is to choose either HBS or Stanford, but I somehow missed Stanford name there. I plan to apply to 6 schools in Jan.
- According to your suggestion about career changers statement, one question popped up in my head. If I stated that I would like to jump to Consulting, will I be compared with MBB guys who already have 4-5 years experience? That would make my life difficult.

I will note down your comments about VC. That is a great one.
