Profile Evaluation Please - Thank You [#permalink] New post 25 Jan 2011, 21:37
Hello,

If you could evaluate my profile, I would greatly appreciate it.

1) Work Experience: 2 Years of Audit Experience at Big 4 accounting firm working. 3 Years of Transaction Services Advisory experience in valuations.

2) Undergraduate: University of Illinois - Champaign 3.5GPA Major-Accountancy, Deans List, Member of Finance Club and Accounting Society

3) GMAT: 700 (Q44 V41)

4) Licensed CPA. Extracurricular's include Junior Achievement and a volunteer advisor for Project xACT accounting projects at undergraduate schools.

5) Target Schools: Kellogg, Wharton, Booth, Yale

Am I a candidate at these schools, or will my average quant score hold me back? Is it worth retaking the test to try and boost my quant score, or will my professional experience help balance out my quant score? Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

In short, you should be fine, since your WE indeed will help counter any concerns there are on quant. Bottom line is, you got a 700, which won't be pulling anyone's average down much if at all, so the fact that you clearly can handle math in your profession should eliminate any hesitation the adcoms would have about your ability to handle math in their program. Plus, accountants are very helpful b-school classmates.

Retaking GMAT never hurts and can only increase your chances since all business schools consider the best score. Schools publish their GMAT stats and hence are sensitive to it. About whether your workex can compensate it, don't picture yourself as an individual but as one application from hundreds of engineers, accountants and IT consultants with range of GMAT score. Any guesses who will be the weaker ones?

Are you a candidate at these schools? Yes. Will you get in? Depends on how well you execute your application. Good luck!
