Profile evaluation - Public sector experience [#permalink] New post 26 Jul 2012, 10:50
Hi,

Before I post details .. I wanted to get a quick opinion based on a brief synopsis of my profile.

Male, 29, Canadian (born in India.. moved to Canada when I was 16)

Majors: Computer Science
GPA: 2.5 (weak spot indeed)
GMAT: 1st attempt 610.. going to re-write it soon .. aiming 700+

Work:
Been working for the provincial government for almost 5 years in various progressive roles:
1 year - IT Programmer
1 year - Project Coordinator/ Project manager
8 months - Project Management consultant
2+ year - Senior Business Consultant (engaged in high profile initiatives ... reducing regulatory burden, business portal resulting in 500M benefits to the businesses etc)
Got my PMP a year ago and working towards a Business process management certification

I am interested in applying to US B-Schools..
Combination of being an international applicant, public sector experience, 700+ Gmat Score and ambition (demonstrated through essays) would make top 10 impossible or a stretch??

Post-MBA - Would like to work with private companies assisting them establish public-private partnerships and assist in developing and delivering cost-effective services that citizens and business benefit from.

Thank you

Hi dhingrav,

Thanks for posting.

Nothing about your story makes me think there is any reason why you cannot be admitted, but nothing stands out telling me why you should be admitted. All of the reasons why a top program would admit you are in the details of your work experience, personal experiences, personality, values and overall story.

Regarding your work experience, remember that admissions teams are looking to cultivate future leaders, so any leadership/managerial experience you can point to is important. Here is a case study of an Indian who was accepted into a top MBA program: http://www.stacyblackman.com/comprehens ... ies/case2/

Here is also another case study regarding how to address a low undergraduate GPA: http://www.stacyblackman.com/comprehens ... ies/case5/

Cheers,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team
