Profile Evaluation Request [#permalink] New post 04 Jun 2012, 10:27
I'm hoping I could get thoughts on my application profile and my chances at the schools listed below.

-GMAT: 670 (44Q, 38V)
-GPA: 4.0 at top 20 university (major in finance) - summa cum laude
-Job: Investment Mgt analyst at a premier bulge bracket U.S. investment bank

-Teaching Assistant in college for MBA level finance courses.
-Some degree of community service/philanthropy involvement
-Would go to business school to switch career path outside of investment management
-White male.

I know my GMAT is slightly low, but what are my chances at the following schools?

Harvard
Stanford
Wharton
Northwestern
Yale
Duke
UCLA
UVA
USC

Thank you,
Jack

Jack,

Given your GMAT, your demographic category, and your professional profile, I would say your chances at Harvard, Stanford, and probably Wharton are nil. Kellogg and Yale will be maybes, and you may be somewhat competitive at Duke, UVA, UCLA, and USC, especially if you can raise the GMAT score and/or show a bit more color on the professional, extracurricular, or personal sides of your profile. Feel free to email me your resume for a closer look: paulbodine@yahoo.com.

Hi Jack,

You have an average GMAT Score. However your work experience and academics are decent and impressive.

The list of B Schools you have selected are very good and among the top US B Schools. As per your GMAT Score Duke, USC and UVA are among the list where you can apply and your acceptance rate is quite high compared to other B Schools you have mentioned in the list. However you can also apply for HBS, Wharton, Stanford, Yale and Northwestern. A low GMAT score can certainly be offset by submitting a good essay and working hard on your application and interviews. Most schools see a combination of all these things to grant an admission.

It is highly advisable in your case to focus on your application evaluation essays. This is where you can demonstrate your leadership qualities, achievements, professional vision and other abilities. A well presented and perfectly written essay is absolutely critical to make a strong case for yourself during the final interview.
