Profile Evaluation Request [#permalink] New post 15 Oct 2012, 16:19
Hi Linda,

Could you help to evaluate and advice:

1) Brief description of your full-time work experience.

I am currently working for one of the world largest freight-forwarding company
Sr. Operation Analyst for corporate level (cross operating company, cross countries) operation strategy at HQ in United States 2012 - Present (5 months)
Assoc. Quality Analyst for corporate level quality initiatives (company-wide IT, Sales, and Marketing) at HQ in United States 2010 - 2012 (1 year 8 months)
Process Engineer for Asia Pacific regional operation projects and analyses at Asia Pacific HQ in Hong Kong 2008 - 2010 (2 years 8 months)

2) Your GMAT.

650 ... is this acceptable or I need to have a higher score?

3) College info: The name of the college, your GPA or grade average, your major, year of graduation. For any graduate degrees, please provide the same info. If you grades are low, please indicate if there were extenuating circumstances.

Georgia Institute of Technology, GPA 2.8, Major in Industrial Engineering, Minor in Japanese, graduated in Fall 2007
The University of Hong Kong, GPA 2.5, Master in Industrial Engineering graduated in Fall 2012 (part time master program)

4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.

College: Research assistant for School of Polymer and Fiber Engineering for 1 year, study abroad in China, Singapore, and Japan during each summer
Post College: Mainly focus on my career. I have been project leads for various projects at work if that count as leadership experience.

5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.

I am currently working on various work related certificate eg. Six Sigma Green Belt, SAS Base Programmer certification.

6) Your target programs.

UCLA, University of Texas - Austin, Emory University, University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Georgia Institute of Technology. However, please kindly suggest if I should also consider any other schools according to my background.

7) Your post-MBA goal.

Strategic or Management Consulting, Mid-Level Corporate position

Please advise and let me know if you need anymore information. Thanks!

I hate to be discouraging, but given your grades and GMAT, which are both significantly below average for your target programs, your profile doesn't appear to me to be competitive at your target programs. You may want to consider Purdue, Michigan State, or Case Western.

Best,
Lidna

Hi Linda,

Thank you very much for your feedback. Would it help if I get a higher GMAT score for Georgia Tech? Or the GPA is the main issue? Please advise.

Georgia Tech is where I received my bachelor, it is a bit disappointing if I cannot even get in their MBA program...

thanks.

It's the combination of the two. if one is low, schools tend to look for evidence elsewhere of academic ability. When both are low, they're left wondering if you can handle a rigorous graduate program.

Georgia Tech is certainly the schools where you are closest to being competitive. A higher GMAT score would help you, but will not guarantee acceptance. But you should also inform the school of circumstances that may have contributed to those low grades and also show that those circumstances no longer are a factor. For more info, please see MBA Admissions: Low GMAT or GPA.

Best,
Linda
