Profile evaluation request [#permalink] New post 04 Mar 2013, 13:06
Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to evaluate my profile. Here are my details:

White male/ 27 years old

1) work experience

2 years equity research at bulge bracket bank (new york) as a junior analyst
2 years investment banking (new york and canada) at same bulge bracket bank as a 3rd year/senior analyst
2 years equity research (new york) at new bulge bracket bank as an associate/senior associate (same team/personnel as 1st job, but at different bulge bracket bank)

2) Your GMAT.

My weak area...I have taken 4 times but best score I could muster was a 680 V40/Q45. I struggle with the timing issues of the test, not sure retaking will result in higher score.

3) College info:

I attended the United States Air Force Academy for 2 years, then was medically disqualified (eyesight) from flying (my reason for attending), and subsequently transferred to CU-Boulder. Air force GPA was 3.5 (although class rank was more competitive ~top 15% of class), CU GPA was 3.2 (a bit unmotivated after transferring/had to work to support myself after losing scholarship). Average GPA of both schools is 3.4. I have a lot of engineering/hard science coursework at Air Force which I did very well in, any chance this offsets a bit of my GMAT weakness?

4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.
Active in my bank's recruiting program, volunteer at local animal shelter, helping with financial aspects/marketing of two startup companies (a distillery and a debt consolidation business)

5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.
CFA III candidate

6) Your target programs.
USC, UCLA, Univ. Texas are top three

7) When you plan to apply?
R2013-14

8) Your post-MBA goal.
I want to transition from my current advisory role (investment banking/research), to an operating role in either transportation or oil and gas (the industries I have experience in). I essentially want a more entrepreneurial role, rather than the corporate IB bulge bracket career. I am wondering if I am competitive (i.e. at least 50% odds) for the schools I have listed.

Thank you!!

UCLA may be a bit of a stretch, but you have a shot at all 3, especially UT. You're being very realistic.

Best,
Linda
