Profile Evaluation Request [#permalink] New post 01 Apr 2013, 10:26
Can you please help me with my profile evaluation and what score and things I should target.

I am 33 years old having 11 years of experience in IT industry at various levels. This includes 4 years of International (US) and 7 years of India experience. This includes 6 years experience in leading the project and 2 year as Project Manager.

I am also having experience of running and setting up small business, I established my own business of Grocery shop, Video Games shop and Motor Parts shop and ran it for 3 years before selling it off and deciding to go for my Masters in Computer Application.

Education Profile is as below.

Masters in Computer Application – 2003 – 69%
Bachelor in Commerce - 1997 – 45%
12th – 44%
10th – 59%
ITIL – 2012
PMP – 2013
Advance Program in Software Engineering and Management from IIT Delhi – 2010
Business Works™ 5.x Boot Camp from Tibco Software, India in 2007.
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) in 2005.

I also enrolled for Executive MBA from Xavier Institute of Management – Bhubaneswar, India. Which is among top 20 Business schools in India. But had to drop out after 6 months because of International assignment.

Extra Curricular Activities.
Play Classical Guitar
Play Table (Indian version of Drum)
Involved with Charitable organization of religious community.

Awards
SPOT AWARD -2006 - For doing exceptional work.
Employee of the Month Award -2008 - This is the beast employee award in my company, few are chosen every month.
Best Team Award - 2008 - When I was leading the Team
Champions of the Month - 2009 - When I was leading the Team
Team of the Quarter – 2010 - When I was Project manager.

I know my percentage make my profile very week for any good business school. But considering my experience and other certification will it be good for me to try for top 20 schools or I should only target 21-40 and other average schools.

Thanks in anticipation for response and guidance.

Thanks for the posting.

From what you present here, I would recommend that you shoot for schools ranked from 21-40. There are a few issues with your background that are going to impact your chances including your age (at 33 admissions is concerned that you may not be able to make the career transition that you desire). Also, I do not see your grades being as competitive as other Indian candidates who have been successfully admitted to more competitive programs, so reality is what it is in this instance. On the positive front, admissions will really value your entrepreneurial experience having developed and sold three stores -- I am sure that there was a lot of unique learning that took place through these experiences.
