Hello, hope you all are doing well. Need some advice.I intend to apply in round 1 2015.
Below is a snapshot of my profile-
Undergrad: B.Tech from National Institute of Technology ,Allahabad (India) 2011
GPA - 7.3/10 ( Was awarded scholarship in my first year for having the best admit rank in the class. Grading was pretty strict. Ended up in the top 30% of my class)
GMAT: 760 ( Quant-51 , Verbal-42 , AWA-5.5 , IR-8)
Work-ex - Currently working as a senior Integration engineer in Sony. Have a work-ex of 4 years currentlyl. Roles and responsibilities are marked as below-
Sony Pictures Entertainment(SPE)( 2years)-
1. Have the responsibility of integrating different business divisions and applications within SPE to different business enterprises SPE deals with.
2. Have stepped up and taken up the responsibility of training and handling a team of 5 to facilitate the successful delivery of projects.
3. Have developed efficient business models and applications to facilitate glitch free business integration process.
4. Have build a good reputation with clients of various business.
5. Being a part of a middleware team have gained end-to-end business and domain knowledge of SPE.
Sony Electronics division (1year)-
1. To diversify my business and domain knowledge , I took initiative and moved to Sony electronics division.
2. Faced different type of challenges here and learned a lot from the hands-on experience of the same.
3. Got to have a good business and domain knowledge of Sony electronics as well.
Sony Pictures Entertainment ( SPE) (1 year)-
1. After the Sony Pictures Hack incident last year , I took initiative and moved back to SPE to handle the disaster management and recovery process.
2. Used my previous experience and expertise of the business to help facilitate speedy recovery of the business and application processes and also made it a good learning experience of risk management and disaster recovery.
3. From here I got introduced to various risk models and risk profiles the company takes into account to face such unforeseeable risks and incidents.
Awards and recognition- total 5 ( 3 personal awards , 2 team awards )
Certifications-
1. CFA Level 1 cleared and FRM Level 1 cleared
2. Have taken long distance courses in fields such as Micro , Macro economics, Financial accounting , corporate finance etc. under institutes such as Wharton, University of Illinois etc.
Extra curricula-rs-
1. Was the organizing head of my undergrad institute's cultural fest managing a team of 50 members. Was also part of the core organizing committee of my institute's technical fest.
2. Have 3 years diploma in hindustani classical music(vocals). Also play guitar, syth, harmonium, tabla and drums. Part of an active rock band currently and was also the chief secretary of the music club of my undergrad institute.
3. Have also run lot of half-marathons for charity and part of my company's official running team. Was also part of my undergrad institute's badminton team.
4. Part of my company's csr team and also have recently joined Make a difference (NGO) in their Fund raising team.
Short term goals - I have gained exposure to the risk management through my current project in my company ,so want to leverage my technical and financial knowledge and expertise gained from an MBA ,to have a role of a risk manager in a reputed company.
Long term goal - Want to open my own venture specializing in creating improved , efficient and unique risk management models.
Target schools - Columbia, Cornell, Stern , Ross, Tepper.
