Hey Paul,
I was wondering if you could give me your feedback on my profile
Nationality: Indian
Age: 22
Sex: Male
Education: Engineer(Computers)...( Wowwie..!!!)
Acad. Performance: GPA would probably be between 3 and 3.5 ( top 25% in my college in my discipline )
GMAT: 770( Q 50,v 45 ) AWA : 5.5
Extracurricular Activities:
1) Won best male model award in an intra-collegiate fashion show in my first year in college.
Won best fashion show award in the same.
2) Got actively involved with a student chapter's activities since my first year in college. We had Inter-Collegiate Technical Symposiums on an annual basis and I was a volunteer for the first two annual tech symposiums. I got promoted to event co-ordinator for a particular competition in the symposium in my third year. In my final year, I was the event manager for the entire technical symposium and led a team of 120+ members in implementing and managing the entire symposium( from scratch to finish ). The annual symposium drew over 1000 students from across the city and featured 10 different competitions. In the same year, I also conceptualized a new technical event which was the first of its kind and successfully implemented it (leading a team of 30 members) during the symposium drawing over 170 registrations in its inaugural year. The feedback received( on paper ) was overwhelmingly positive and the quality of the event was highly praised.
3) In my capacity as the manager of the entire symposium, I came up with the suggestion to raise funds from corporate sponsors. The suggestion was accepted by the college board and I led a team of 10 members to raise sufficient funds for the inter-collegiate symposium. This was a first for my college. The college had never before received nor attempted to receive funds from corporate sponsors.
4) After being a vounteer for the annual sports meet in my first two years in college and conducting a sports competition in my third year, I was elected as the Sports Secretary( highest position for a student in sports) of the college in my final year. In that capacity, I led another team of 50+ members to conduct the sports meet of the college. I initiated the inclusion of 2 additional sports into the meet ( a first in my college- nobody had ever initiated the inclusion of new sports before ). Over 400 students participated in the meet. The number of sports conducted during the meet is an all time high for my college till date. I also initiated the idea of and conducted a soccer competition on the entire college ground ( another first in my college since the college board would only allow ring soccer due to time constraints).
5) I was an active member of the Campus Recruitment Committee of the college during the third and fourth year of my under-grad. I suggested new ideas that increased the efficiency of the committee. However, there is no numerical proof I can offer for this. Also, I conducted several seminars and workshops( with technical and non-technical content ) over the course of my under-grad which were all well received. In my first year of college, I suggested and was responsible for the inclusion of an eye donation stall into the inter-collegiate symposium. Over a 100 students pledged their eyes via the stall.
6) I was the member of the college soccer team for the last 3 years of my under-grad and a regular in the playing XI for the last 2. However, we could never win anything. I used to play basketball for my school but was just a fringe player.
7) My only significant academic achievements were when I was in school. I won two merit based scholarships at different times via tests conducted across the state board schools.
I am about to join an IT firm (what else?) and dont really have any choice about it. I intend to work for atleast 3 years before applying to b-schools.
My questions are as follows:
a) Do you think I have any chance at a top 10 or 15 b-school in the US 3 yrs down the line?
b) What I can do to increase my chances to get into the same? (regardless of my current chances given that I am a part of a very common demographic )
b) After my MBA, i would like to get into Investment Management or become an entrepreneur. I havent been able to narrow it down further. Which b-schools would you recommend?
Thank you for your time and patience.
