Profile Evaluation Request- Entrepreneur [#permalink] New post 23 Jul 2011, 11:31
Hello ,

Request you to please provide your feedback about my profile:

Demographic: Male, 28, India

Educational Background: B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, GPA 3.3

GMAT - 660(81%) - Quant 49 , Verbal 31.

Work experience: I have 6 years of work experience including 3 years of experience working as a SAP BI consultant where I grew into the role of a teamlead managing a team of 80 consultants. The reminder as an entrepreneur as the CEO of an Engineering Manufacturing Plant with end to end responisbilties of supervision of procurement of raw materials, production of finished products, financial management, marketing and Human resources management. I am also serving as a Director and share holder in a Ferro Alloys Manufacturing Unit in India for the last 2 years.

Recommendations: I am planning to submit the following recommendations:
* My supervisor from my time as SAP BI consultant
* Managing Director of the company I am serving as a director.
* Head of the mechanical department of my undergrad institute.

Extracurriculars: I am an active Volunteer to an Non-government Organisation(NGO) in India and work as the managing administrator of an Industrial Training Institute run by the NGO. This institute in rural part of India provides industrial training to poor and underpriviged students. Such training enables the kids to have much better job opportunities as the part of a skilled work force and work as machine operators, electrician etc.

Goals: My goal is to continue learning and make myself better at problem solving, leadership, and decision making. I want to get into an instute which can provide me the fundamentals to become the best person I can be and contribute to my company and society to the best of my abilities.

Schools: I am interested in the fields of Finance, Entrepreneurship and International Trade preferably in the top 25 B-schools in the US. I am open to suggestion regarding the schools which would be best suited for me.I would prefer the schools in the south east region of the United States but will be willing to move elswhere for a good college.

Here are the schools I'm considering:
* Duke University (Fuqua) ,
* University of Virginia (Darden) ,
* Emory University (Goizueta)
* University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)
* Havard ( not sure this is a good idea with my GMAT score though)

But I am looking for thoughts if I can get into the top 20 schools with my GMAT score and profile or if I need to improve my GMAT score. Also I need advice about the school I should be applying and how I should go about it.

Thank you

Hey man--happy to offer up some thoughts. Right off the top of my head my friend, YES you will want to retake the GMAT. You are targeting some great schools, which is a good thing. You SHOULD target these places, especially in today's job market (especially given how hard it is for internationals to get jobs). But you need to be more realistic. A 660? From an Indian male...at HBS? : ) It isnt gonna happen brother. You gotta juice that verbal score for sure. Duke and Darden are stretches too man.

Assuming you ROCK your essays, which you will have to, you will still need to show that your verbal scores are up to par. Otherwise, schools will assume that youll have trouble with reading assignments, talking in class, etc.

So. That would be my main strategy my friend. Be realistic--retake that gosh darn test.

And your dreams can come true dude!
