Hi Alex,
I was planning on applying to MBA programs for admission in Fall 2013 and was hoping you could evaluate my profile based on my stats below:
Background
-American born and raised, Pakistani descent, 1st generation college grad, male, 25 years old (26/27 when i apply)
- Undergrad: University of Texas at Austin, Electrical Engineering, GPA 3.23
- Graduate: NC State University, Masters in Electrical Engineering, GPA 3.6 (completed concurrently while working full-time)
-Languages: Fluent in Urdu, conversational Spanish, can read Arabic
- GMAT - 710, AWA - 6.0 (I know you recommend not to retake if its above 700, but should I consider it since I still have 1-1.5 years before I apply?)
Work Experience
-Co-ops/internships with Marathon Oil, NASA, and IBM,
-3 years with GE Energy as Design Engineer(1st 2 years in their technical leadership development program);
-Will have 2 years work experience with a smaller but still fortune 500 engineering company; expect promotion in next 12 months
-recently co-founded a company on Islamic Investing - website guiding Muslims to investing in accordance with Islamic principles.
Extracurricular
- Spent 3.5 years memorizing entire text of the Holy Quran (in Arabic); teach kids to read Quran
-College: UT Solar Vehicle team, middle school kids mentoring program, Muslim Student Association, Basketball competitions
-Post College - Team leader at Houston Food Bank, toastmasters, still teach kids to read Quran
Goals
Short-term MBA Goals - Finance/strategic role with global energy company (Chevron, Dow, Exxon, etc.)
Long term MBA Goal - Start my own global energy solutions company using solar and other non-conventional energy sources; mainly targeting under developed areas
