You may want to skew your mix of schools more towards top 16 schools.

As a Big-4/avg school guy, your sweet spot will be schools like Ross, Duke, Darden, Stern, Yale, Cornell and UCLA. This tier should really be your focus (choose 3-4 from this list).

Schools in the top 8 like HBS, Stanford, Wharton, Kellogg, Booth, Sloan, Columbia and Haas are going to be stretches for a guy with your profile, even if you feel you have a decent story to tell. Again there's nothing wrong with you - it's that for these tier of schools, you're simply up against more than enough folks with bluer chip backgrounds (and who also have interesting narratives to tell) - and yet for these blue chip types they aren't exactly shoe-ins either. As such, focus on 1-2 from this list.
