Profile Evaluation - Second MBA [#permalink] New post 29 Dec 2012, 23:32
Undergrad - Engineering from an average college in India
MBA from one of the IIMs (0 pre-MBA work experience)

Age: 30 (when I apply next year)

Work Experience:

4 Years in Sales and Marketing with a tech MNC
2.5 years of entrepreneurship experience in the Training and Media sector

GMAT - 740
GPA - ~ 3.6 in UG and ~ 3.4 in PG (converted and not normalized) - My score * Topper's Score / 4. Crude, yes.

Strong Extra-curricular activities and leadership roles.

I wish to learn, network and grow more into the Marketing/Big Data areas and right now will salivate at a PE role within the Tech sector.
I realize the need to build a good, logical and convincing story, which I *think* I possess/ My story isn't about 'I got bored with X. Therefore, I need to do Y'

I believe that I can write very good essays.
I can get good (!) letter of recommendations from people who have worked with me and people whom I have reported to.

Queries:
1. Is a honest story like this convincing enough?
2. I am looking at the Top Schools but the question is whether they will be interested in someone with a profile like mine?
3. I know which ones strictly knock second MBA aspirants out of the park (Haas, Tuck, Duke, Cornell, UCLA..) Any suggestions on schools to focus?

If you have any other observations / impressions / suggestions that will help me consider / reconsider / mull over, it will be very helpful!

Thanks for all the good work!ac

Hello,

Thanks for sharing your profile. Your professional experience sounds very interesting and your academics are quite strong. I'll take your word on the ECs and leadership roles :)

Let's get to your questions:
1. Can't really answer this one, because I haven't really heard your story yet! Feel free to share, or if you'd like, sign up for a free consultation with one of our consultants to get in depth feedback on your career narrative. That is probably the best option. You can do so here: http://www.mbamission.com/consult.php

2. The two big glaring issues in your profile are 1) very nonlinear career path (this can be overcome with a very strong story) and 2) that you already have an MBA (this brings us to question 3)

3. Unfortunately, I don't have a good list of programs that are open to second MBA candidates. Outside of that requirement, I would suggest looking at NYU, Columbia, Wharton and also Kellogg. This is based on your interest in marketing, tech, PE. I would research these programs to see if they are open to second MBA candidates and also to see if they are good fits for you.

The biggest thing will be to nail your story. I strongly suggest a free consultation to see if it makes sense! I can't get into too much depth on the forum.

Good luck!
Mili
