I just finished taking the GMAT, scored 740 overall, with a 46Q and a 47V. Now, you may be asking, why would someone retake with a 740? Well, my target schools are Harvard, Booth, Columbia, and Wharton. I was also previously given the advice that I needed to score at least in the 80th percentile on the quant portion to be competitive at these schools. Additional information, PSU Engineering Grad GPA 3.5, currently a management consultant at a tier 2 firm in the banking industry (commercial and consumer, not Investment). 3 years of experience, I have been promoted once.

Thanks

Hi bab5200,

Thanks for your post. For your GMAT score, we normally recommend that if a person believes they can improve their score by 30+ points, that they re-take the exam. The reason is that your highest score is self-reported on your application, so admissions teams will focus on your best score.

At the same time, a 740 is a fantastic score and would certainly not hurt a person's application at any of the programs you are considering.

If you decide to take the test again, we provide free GMAT advice here: http://www.stacyblackman.com/test-prep-hub/

We also provide free 30 minute phone consultations here: http://www.stacyblackman.com/contact/

Cheers,
