Hi, any help will be much appreciated!

1) Full-time work experience
2 years as military automotive technician in conscripted army (possibly not counted as professional)
3 years. Senior Engineer at a large automotive company. Highly technical functions - some (limited) leadership roles, and with several high profile projects.

750 (Q49, V44, IR6)

3) College info
Univ. Of Michigan, BS. Aerospace Engineering GPA: 3.62
Extenuating circumstances: was graduating in 3 years, trying to save time/$
Purdue Univ, MS. Mech. Engr GPA: 3.67 (Part time, while working)

4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.
Managing family business: small investment firm (Assets in the order of 10m USD). Strongly believe that there is great, untapped potential for the company.

5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.

6/7) Your target programs
R1 2014: Sloan, HBS, Stanford, Wharton
R2 2014/15: Yale, Columbia, Booth, McCombs
R1/R2 strategy is not fixed. Open to suggestions

While working on family company on the side, and eventually possibly formally taking over reins of family inv. firm.

Expert's post

You have a unique and interesting profile – they key will be tomake the most of it in your applications.

Overall, I consider you a qualified and viable applicant to the best programs, and you’ve targeted a good range of high and closer reasonable reaches, and some very appealing (for your goals) on-pars, e.g., McCombs. Really showcase your strengths and unique experiences effectively – in other words, at work and outside work, make sure you show leadership and impact, while also presenting a unique voice and perspective.

Overall your R1/R2 approach is fine. If you have to move any R1 programs to R2, make sure it’s not MIT.
