Profile Evaluation/Very Indept MBA/GI Bill Analysis [#permalink] New post 08 May 2011, 14:29
Ok, here is my basic info. I have included a pretty detailed MBA analysis that takes into account my Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits. Hopefully other vets can criticize its considerations or find it useful. Thanks in advance!

1) Basic demographic info: 27, male, US

2) Educational Background: Finance Major, 3.3 overall/3.7 university GPA (have 4 F's that should of been withdrawls while I was in the Marines due to deployment ending my class participation, I cannot get the original orders to correct them), 700 GMAT

3) Work experience: Undergrads Spring 2012, Prior experience culinary school, 2 years chef/restaurant management, 4 years as an Enlisted Marine (Supply and Logistics), Fixed Income Analyst Internship at top rank funds, IRS Revenue Agent Co-op

4) Extracurriculars: Business Honors Program. President (FOR NEXT YEAR) Financial Management Assc, 2/2 first place finishes for our schools stock competitions.

5) Short/Long term goals: I want to move into trading or buy side analyst for asset management post MBA. Consulting/consulting analyst is a secondary consideration.

6) Schools: Which schools have you considered already? Any on your initial short list? Columbia, Booth, Haas, Stern, Cornell, Anderson.... please see spreadsheet

Holy Shit, Bourbon:

I just took a look at that spreadsheet you posted. That is a beast, but I have to give you props on the amount of research you are doing. Love it.

First off, I would not worry about the failing grades too much. It will be a concern to the admissions committee, but really only a problem if you do not explain what the hell happened. I think that getting deployed is a pretty damn good reason for not completing classes. I am still having trouble grasping what actually happened -- that is, why they would keep you multiple failing grades if you have a legitimate excuse for leaving. Help me out with that.
Other than that, your grade point average is fine -- even with the failing grades.

Quick question -- are you still an undergraduate? I see here that you list your work experience in some type of undergraduate role as the spring of 2012. Please clear this up for me.

Your career goals are very logical, meaning that they build upon your current work experiences -- at least some of them. There is really no problem here.

I am not sure what to make up your question six. I know it is late or I am (actually it is four in the morning), but it seems that someone is asking you these questions and this may be a cut-and-paste error. I think they get the meaning though. Really the schools you want to concentrate on -- giving your sales and trading or by side analytical role -- Columbia, NYU, Wharton (stretch school), Chicago, MIT, maybe Cornell and Yale. Anderson and Haas are really not going to do you any favors if you want to be located in the Northeast and in the heart of the financial service industry.

I hope this helps, if you want to set up an initial consultation -- basically a free, one-hour long phone call -- I would be more than happy to speak with you. Please e-mail me at MBA@amerasiaconsulting.com to set this up.

allow me to take another look at the spreadsheet in order to digest it.please answer some questions about is it take a deeper dive into the spreadsheet later today.

Respectfully,
Paul Lanzillotti

This Fs were back in 05. It is a law if you are getting deployed they have to give you a withdrawl. I thought I did so but somehow the paperwork didn't go through and by the time I checked, Fall 09 when I returned to school on the GI Bill I could no longer get a hold of my old orders as my old command wasn't even around anymore.

Yes I am still an undergrad graduating in spring 2012, so I am targeting applying as early as Oct 11', which is ED for Columbia and a few others

The reason the spreadsheet is so indepth is because of my lack of clarity as to my candidacy. Obviously if I could get into Colubmia/Booth, all that analysis would be mute.

Thanks for your help.
