I am currently trying to decide which BS to choose and I would like your insight about my profile.
born and raised in central africa (until 11) then moved in France
Gender: male african
GMAT: 700 (Q47 V39) only one try, could certainly do better on verbal, I had only 4-5 days to train
WE: 4.5 years as startup engineer for BIG4 nuclear industry firm. I work exclusively on nuclear power plant which demands high work ethics, technical knowledge (you don't want to mess up the wrong equipment). I am responsible of the final test after important modification of the power plant.
college info : general engineering school ( I hold a master in mechanical, electrical and industrial engineering). GPA not available (13,5/20)
College activities: team member of an organization that have installed a school with computer in Togo and I gave linux courses during one month.
I was also the coach of a soccer team ( under 9 section), and we reached semi finals for the first time
I have also organised the construction of a water access in the village of my ancestors.
entrepeurnship: I started a small company with my brother, but the goal is not really profit but rather to get african writer out there
I am also discussing with a group of friend to start something in the agrobusiness in central africa
Wharton, LBS, Columbia, booth, kellogg, fuqua, tuck, yale and ross ( I will choose only 4 or 5)
Long-term: Help small and middle business of central and west africa find solutions for their growth, that could be done through private equity (SME private equity or social private equity), I will also do consulting with the creation of a network of entrepreneur (my brother is already working on that)
Short-term: start in strategy consulting in US or Europe 2 or 3 years then private equity in US or europe for 2 or 3 years then move to private equity in africa (long-term goal)
Thank you for your advice.
Although I am not familiar with the grading system, it seems to me like your grades are a little low. However, your GMAT is competitive, your work experience is very impressive and your personal background, international exposure, and clear, distinctive goal will all garner interest and attention.
I suggest you apply to Wharton, LBS, CBS, Booth, Tuck, Fuqua, and Ross. Since you want to apply to no more than 5, which is reasonable, cut one from Wharton, LBS, CBS, and Booth, and one from Tuck, Fuqua, and Ross.
If you would like help with your application, please let me know. We have experience with both European applicants and African applicants to top programs -- and even occasionally applicants that combine those backgrounds.
