Hi,
Kindly evaluate my Profile please.

I am planning to give my GMAT in Sept'12. I am hitting 650 in GMAT prep & MGMAT & hope would touch 700 in the finals.
I am looking for Indian Colleges (ISB) as studying abroad would be very expensive for me, but I am open to go provided if I can get any scholarships.

Work Experience: total 4 yrs of work-ex in Sales ( Business Development, Marketing, Sales, New Acquisition & Farming from Existing Accounts ) of IT Solutions & Services like Data Centre Services, Cloud Services, IT Management & Monitoring, Facility Management, Hardware, Software, etc

IBM/26 months/ Sales & Marketing of above mentioned IT Services apart from Running a marketing campaign to educate customers about IBM services.

Omnitech (MNC)/ 12 months / Sales of above mentioned services.

Wipro/6 months & working till date/ Sales of above services. New Acquisitions & Farming from existing Large accounts.

I am currently earning a CTC of 8 lakh per annum or 20K USD.

Education Background:

Post Graduate Diploma in MAnagement through Distance Learning from Symbiosis Pune.
B.tech in Computer Science & Engineering with 69%
12th from Maths & Science with 73%
10th from PCM with 84%.

Extracurricular Activities:

Active member of Green Peace Society ( NGO for Environment Protection ) in terms of Donations & participating in campaigns.
Freelancing in Trading in Stock Markets.
President of Cultural Society of my College.
Developed - Installed & Commissioned a Self Made Health Research Software for Homeopath Doctors to carry out different kinds of research, at my hometown free of cost.
It is still running live successfully.

My Question:

1) What is my chance of getting into ISB & what would be the min score required?
2) Any good colleges in US or UK where I stands a chance & at what score?
3) What is the input Expenses Vs Output CTC ratio in those colleges? ( considering the recent changes in visa & work permit policies of US & UK, & the global market)

Any other suggestions / advice would be helpul. Kindly advice.

Expert's post
Hello there,

You've worked at great companies and it's great that you have a business/sales background professionally vs. an IT background. Your current extracurricular and community experience is limited and does not demonstrate strong leadership capacity. However, if you can spin your healthcare software into an entrepreneurial experience, that could go a long way. Still, with a 650 GMAT and your academic profile, I think ISB would be a reach. Perhaps if you scored above a 700 (ideally closer to 750), this could become more realistic.

Without knowing your GMAT, it's difficult to say where exactly you should target. Let's assume you score a 650, then you could target schools like Emory, Michigan State, Georgetown, Tulane. If you score a 700, you could aim a little higher. Same goes for the UK schools - you'll aim lower if your GMAT score is in the 650 range and higher if you can achieve a 700+ (LBS) would still be a reach, but it's within the realm of possibility with a very high GMAT score).

Unfortunately, I can't provide an answer to your last question. School costs, costs of living, and expected salaries from each vary greatly and depend on what job you'll get and in which country, etc. You'll have to think through whether these programs are worth it to you and do your own cost/benefit analysis based on your personal goals, priorities and constraints.

Good luck,
