Profile Review and Tips? BS Chemical Engineer, 710 GMAT [#permalink]
04 Aug 2014, 12:51
I've been a lurker on GMAT club for a few months now, and would appreciate if anyone could provide any input on my profile, or tips on the application cycle. Thanks in advance for all the pointers!
I graduated from a large state school with a top 15 engineering program a little over two years ago with my BS in chemical engineering. I've been working in the EPC industry for the last two years, and am interested in applying either this cycle, or the next, for a full time MBA program.
GMAT: 710 (48Q, 38V, 7 IR, 5.5 AWA)
GPA: 2.5/4.0 (This is my weak point)
Work Experience: 8 months co-op at an engineering firm
2 years full-time as a process engineer at a large EPC firm
I can't really explain my undergrad GPA- I have really been up and down through out my college career. A large part of it was due to immaturity at the beginning.
My end goal is to attend a top ranked MBA program, and eventually move into the Oil & Gas Investment banking sector, and I intend on putting out applications to the following programs:
Texas A&M- Mays
My GPA is low. Really low. Is it worth retaking the GMAT to bring it up to a 750 plateau to make up for this somewhat? Initially, I had not prepped for the GMAT as much as possible. I did a handful of DS problems to gain familiarity, and did one or two IR sections to figure out what it was all about. Do schools really differentiate that much between a 710 and a 750?
Are there any programs on my list, or any other top programs which are more open to high GMAT, low GPA applicants? Any programs I should look at, or take off my list?
Thank you once again for your time! Please feel free to let me know if there are any other items I need to address.
