Expert's post
Hi Raja,

Let's do this:

Work Ex :

Your work experience description is oversimplified to a point it is hard to judge the advance you had throughout your 4.5 yrs in IT. Its fundamental that you tell a story as to how your work evolved in McAfee and Citrix showing compelling evidence of leadership and team collaboration, qualities that go a lot further than financial results. Financial results are important for companies, not business schools. Financial results depend on developing the right tool set, but leadership and team spirit are much harder to obtain, being what really defines whether you get accepted or not. Try to exhibit this. I am sure you will find good examples in your career and personal life if you look for them. Forget trying to demonstrate technical efficiency, you have your resumé for that.

ACADS :

Your academic achievements are OK, no school will refuse you simply because of them.

ACHIEVEMENTS :

Once more you do not mention the scenario that enabled you to achieve your goals. The BS will not compare you to similar professionals by observing what you sold or produced, but rather the situation in which you were able to reach such results. How do you work under pressure? How have you collaborated with your teams? How have you helped a peer? How have you directly influenced the environment so as to achieve your results? This is not demonstrated through bonuses.

EXTRA CURRICULAR

Perfect. In this area it is pretty clear that you are not only entrepreneurial but also collaborative.

AREA OF INTEREST

Given your interests , you must know that the best school is Harvard, BUT, there are many additional details of your profile that need to be addressed before we can determine whether HBS is a good fit. One of them is your age. Harvard may seem like an impossible dream today but MBA House is very comfortable working with underdogs. We have actual schools in developing economies, and you must be able to imagine how hard it is to work with candidates that have little idea about which MBAs fit their goals. Its really about the coaching process that can take to a couple months before actually starting on the essays.

Target Schools

Kellogg is a great option , together with Berkeley for its entrepreneurial approach - MIT as well. And then there's Harvard, but we need to explore your profile further before jumping in. There is a strong movement to stay in India for an MBA these days, but you miss out on the international experience. It is not that Indian MBAs aren't international, but rather because since you are Indian, you will not leave your comfort zone. I believe its better for an American to go study in India than it is for you. Singapore is a wonderfully effervescent market but I would rather look at INSEAD instead of NUS.

Tell me what you think.
