Requesting an evaluation on what schools are in play:

GMAT: 690 (42Q/42V)
GPA: 4.0 (top 5 US public university)
Demographics: white female, young

Work experience:

Currently, chief Economic Policy Advisor to a US Senator (member of Senate Finance Committee)
Accomplishments: author/proponent of "Cash for Clunkers" bill; helped author aspects of stimulus bill, financing portions of health care bill

Recommendations: one from Senator, other from HBS grad

Is HBS out of the question, or do I have a shot?

Nice handle. How does your twin feel about that?

There's not a lot to go on here, obviously, but enough that I'm certainly impressed and intrigued.

Right now I'm thinking not only would HBS be in the ballpark, but it might be your best shot. HBS looks for young talent, contributors to the classroom dynamic, and people with exceptional potential. A 4.0 from a top public (guessing UVA, given your transition to the Hill), followed by some very interesting policy work ... well, that qualifies. There might also be some JD/MBA programs or even other straight up b-school options that would be a good fit. You're going to have to nail the "why an MBA" underlying question in all your apps. Non-traditional applicants are cat nip for top business schools, but you do carry a larger burden in showcasing that you really think this particular path (as opposed to law school, an MPP, et al) is right for you.

If you want to get into some greater detail, PM me as I'd love to set you up with an initial consultation.

Respectfully,

Paul Lanzillotti
