Proponents of artificial intelligence say they will be able to make computers that can understand English and other human languages, recognize objects, and reason as an expert does-computers that will be used to diagnose equipment breakdowns, deciding whether to authorize a loan, or other purposes such as these.

<Option>as an expert does-computers that will be used to diagnose equipment breakdowns, deciding whether to authorize a loan, or other purposes such as these</Option>

<Option>as an expert does, which may be used forpurposes such as diagnosing equipmentbreakdowns or deciding whether to authorizea loan</Option>

<Option>like an expert--computers that will be usedfor such purposes as diagnosing equipmentbreakdowns or deciding whether to authorizea loan</Option>

<Option>like an expert, the use of which would be forpurposes like the diagnosis of equipmentbreakdowns or the decision whether or not aloan should be authorized</Option>

<Option>like an expert, to be used to diagnose equipment breakdowns, deciding whether to authorize a loan or not, or the like</Option>

HOw can we say a computers reason like an expert? I thought it had to be reasons as an expert does to make the comparisons of apples vs apples... Please explain why the OG says like an expert is valid here/ any one?

IMO C. 'like' should be used here. 'like' is used to compare objects of similar qualities. 'as' is used to list the qualities of the object.

eg. A is like B -> A and B have similar qualities.

D is comma splice and E not parallel.

Agree with C

'Reason like an expert' is used to compare AI with computers, not necesarily a specific action that AI does.
