If your additional year of work experience shows no forward progress (additional leadership, responsibilities, community involvement), then your odds won't improve. Schools want additional value. Generally speaking, there is a small but statistically clear advantage for reapplicants at most schools--that is, the admit rates at most schools are higher for reapps versus the applicant pool as a whole. However, it varies from school to school and from year to year. Historically, Michigan, Duke, UNC, and Texas among other schools have been very generous with reapplicants.
