Looking at the options, I picked up D for the following reasons. New computer simulations showed that the meteor shower/trail is hollow shaped and the particles tends to from about the boundary of the meteor's orbit. Astronomers have hypothesized that the meteor stream should broaden with time. Both of the above sentences tells us that the period of the meteor shower would increase because of the particles ejected out of the comet is spread across.

D should be just about right. B/c according to the passage the computer simulation shows that a meteor stream "broadened with time", what does that tell us? It tells us that the dust particles are denser when the comet is younger and in due time (as it gets older) the dust particles start to broaden and their velocities are much slower than they used to be. Therefore, older meteor showers do last longer than young meteor showers because their velocities lessen and they become more distributed.

Let's look at disqualifiers: A - same as C B - most and should are red flags C - usually in the answer vs would be in the text. The text tells us that the theories are different in the structure, not in probability of distribution. E - there is nothing mentioned in the text about the SIZE of the participles === IMHO, C and D are pretty close plausible answers, but a little tiny 'usually' word makes C the incorrect option.

Conv theory = Ast pred stream broaden with time. and comp model tested this hyp. comp mdl strm broadended with time. The only thing common between two is "stream broadening with time". it can be inferred that older the steam, the wider and "longer" the distribution.
D is the only inference. D is conservative to say "longer" - which certainly has no contradiction. However it can be inferred that stream "broadened" with time.

IMO , the ans is 'D'.. both the theories suggest that meteor stream would become longer by time because of constant fall out of dust particles. In other words, a old meteorite would have the longer 'tail' than a new one and as a result, would have a longer meteor shower than a new one. It cant be C because thats the one where both the theories contradict each other..

Very difficult one. Inference in RC is probably the most difficult topic.
