Fox jeans regularly sell for $15 a pair and Pony jeans regularly sell for$18 a pair. During a sale these regular unit prices are discounted at different rates so that a total of $9 is saved by purchasing 5 pairs of jeans: 3 pairs of Fox jeans and 2 pairs of Pony jeans. If the sum of the two discounts rates is 22 percent, what is the discount rate on Pony jeans? (A) 9% (B) 10% (C) 11% (D) 12% (E) 15% Manager Joined: 27 May 2008 Posts: 203 Followers: 1 Kudos [?]: 27 [0], given: 0 Re: PS-Discount [#permalink] 07 Dec 2008, 06:32 B Given data Fox jeans sell for$15 a pair and Pony jeans sell for $18 a pair. Total discount =$9
So letz take discount % on fox jeans as X and discount % on pony jeans as Y

Also Since 3 pairs of FOX and 2 pairs of pony were sold.
45X + 36Y = 900 ------- 1

Sum of discount % = 22

SO X + Y = 22 ------- 2

Solvng 1 and 2 --- y = 10
