Lindsay can paint 1/x of a certain room in 20 minutes.

Meaning she can paint 3/x of the room in one hour (20min*3).

Joseph can paint 1-3/x of the room in one hour or x/x-3/x = x-3/x

And in 20min (60min/3) he can paint (x-3)/x/3 of the room.

(x-3)/3x

I used x = 10 and whole room = 20, made some lengthy calculations, and arrived at C as the answer.

Then I saw Killer's concise and elegant solution
