(96x2) - ((96/1.2)+(96/.8)) = -8
therefore a loss $8

Share B - $y

Sold share A at 20% profit = 1.2x = 96 ---> x = 80
Sold share B at 20% loss = 0.8y = 96 ---> y = 120

Total sale = 96*2 = 192
Original cost = 200

So he made a loss of $8
