This problem is confusing when read in a hurry.

Given (f is the function specified)

f(m) = 3m when m is odd
f(m) = m/2 when m is even

f(9) = 3x9 =27 as 9 is odd
f(6) = 6/2 = 3 as even

Therefore f(9) x f(6) = 27 x 3 = 81.

The answer A is f(81) = 3x81 = 243 not just 81.

Therefore, 81 is not the correct answer.

What you are looking for is f(x) = 81

As 81 = f(27) { as 27 x 3 = 81}
OR 81 = f(162) { as 162/2 = 81 }

x could be : 27 or 162

Only f(27) is an option....

If 9 and 6 were not boxed they would be 54!

A boxed 81 = 81*3 based on the rules. = 243.

If the answers were not boxed it would be (a) 81

As it is the answer is (d) 27.

Just splitting hairs
