E. -35

(x+1)^2 = 900

i.e. x+1 = 30 or x+1=-30

i.e. x = 29 or x = -31

Hence x-4 = 25 or -35

I don't understand...how does it become x+1 = 30 or x+1=-30? It appears to me that both sides are squared...but how come there is x+1=-30?
