PT Kellogg MBA program or PT-MBA from UT Austin? HELP! [#permalink]
08 May 2008, 08:59
Hi folks, I have an admit from both. I will appreciate your feedback on deciding between the two,
* I have about 8 years experience in the semiconductor industry in the US(currently in a engineering and program management role). * My future goal is to be in a Strategic Management role in the semiconductor industry(as a logical next step). But, I am open to the other possiilities that an MBA degree may proide.
* My options in terms of location are either US(where i am now) or India (in case I move back)
* I am local to UT Austin, but I will have to commute every weekend to Chicago for Kellogg
Based on the above datapoints, can you please provide some feedback about:
>> what in your opinion will provide the most bang for th buck long term? >> For Pt-MBA, do you think the college ranking matters as much? >> Since I will be doing the Saturday MBA, I will will have few options in terms of networking, attending events etc. at kellogg. However, do you think this is really not that big a deal for a PT program?
Thanks!! Stoic

Um, flying to Chicago every Saturday from Austin for class? What about bad weather, flight delays, etc.? You may not end up at class every Saturday. Plus the cost of flying up there. I can't imagine all the hassle would be worth the difference between a UT and a Kellogg PT-MBA. Plus it takes 2.5 years. If you were planning to move to Chicago, then I would say absolutely, but commuting would be really tough. Plus you have so little access to the culture, other students, career services, etc. Just one man's opinion, but personally I would either move to Chicago and find a full-time job or go to UT-Austin.

Thanks very much for the reply.
Your inputs are well taken(expense and effort of travelling to Chicago etc.) .
However, with regards to imbibing the culture in a part-time MBA, is there really enouh time to imbibe the culture etc. even if you are local ? Wouldn't the brand name of Kellogg trump this negative in the long run?
All, I would really appreciate your feedback.
Regards, Stoic

In your situation I would think you would feel more absorbed and involved going to UT weeknights and getting to participate in all kinds of events versus jet setting to the downtown Chicago campus of Kellogg. Outside of the MBA, what about other university activites like football games? Just one man's opinion.
