PT vs Online Healthcare [#permalink]
06 Dec 2007, 12:38
i'm a mid-level manager in the healthcare industry with no desire to leave my current duties to attend full time, as i'm already on the senior management fast track as part of a high potential future exec group. in order to jump up to a 'chief' role, I need to earn my mba.
here are my options:
PT DePaul - specialize in financial management (CFO path but no healthcare)
PT Loyola Chicago - specialization in healthcare (cohort program w international studies)
Online George Washington University - highest ranked (but online?)
U of Chi is too expensive for the degree (not going into ibanking or asset management or career changing)
what are your thoughts?

Aim for the U of Chi and get your work to pay for it. If you are fast tracked like you say and its going to basically be a requirement to becoming senior management then they should be willing to foot at least a sizeable chunk of the degree.
I would pick any of those PT programs over an online degree. Online still carries a stigma with it, someday that may change but its looked down on now.

I specifically included the caveat about University of Chicago as to not receive this response. I was asking for a ranking of the three listed. My company is very firm on their reimbursement policy and the name of the school is of less importance as I am in the door and successful.

The answer you will get from almost everyone on this board reading your first post is probably what I said. It generally felt that you go to the best place you can but since you dont need that and its cost prohibitive. In Chicago, excluding Chicago and Northwestern, Loyola is the best school you have listed.
I still say an online degree is a last resort...Chicago has a ton of decent part time programs and two of the best in the world. There are a lot of options such as the University of Illinois to look at before going online.

I would choose DePaul, I hear that there PT program is fairly strong and I have not heard much about Loyola. I know some people at work that completed their PT MBA at DePaul and had a very positive experience. Although as River said, I would aim for Kellogg and UChicago's PT programs.
