c. the reason for majority rule is not because they are more likely to be right, they are stronger

d. the majority is allowed to rule because of its strength, not because it is more likely to be right

e. the reason why the majority rules is that it is strong, not because it is likely to be right

A,C,E -- reason . because -- redundant.
Also in C -- "they" no clear referrant.

between B and D

Correct idiom Not X , But Y

IMO it should be B.

I think B is the most parallel in all of them.

IMO B

Not X but Y is the idiom used. X & Y must be parallel. Both should either have 'that' in the beginning (which none of the option has) or because in the start (which ofcourse B has).

b. a majority is allowed to rule not because it is more likely to be right, but because it is stronger -> perfect

c. the reason for majority rule is not because they are more likely to be right, they are stronger ->

d. the majority is allowed to rule because of its strength, not because it is more likely to be right

e. the reason why the majority rules is that it is strong, not because it is likely to be right -> NOT PARALLEL

Simple, Not X but Y

X and Y must be in parallel and only B preserves it.

a majority is allowed to rule not because it is more likely to be right, but because it is stronger

There needs to be comparison with something else?
I am stronger
vs
I am strong

First can be fixed by 'I am stronger than Robert'

Its between B and D... Go with B..

Why A is incorrect is : you don't use "the reason is" and "because" in the same sentence.. its redundant !

I see something else that lead me to choose B over D. in D it reads " THE majority", but the majority of what is the author referring to? A majority refers to ANY kind of majority...thus I picked B!

I apologize for uncovering this old SC question, but:

How can B be right, is it not making the mistake of using "stronger" with nothing to compare it to?
