Stay with A.

The metabolism of X is compared to a mammal's (metabilism) and reptile's (metabolism)
C & D out 'coz "metabolisms" .....
B out 'coz metabolism .... were is incorrect
E. a metabolism more like that of a mammal's (metabolism) is wrong. It should either be metabolism more like that of a mammal.

I'm not quite shure, but I think that "contend that" needs a subjuntive mood following it, so "were" should be correct.
Additionally, "species of dinosaur had a metabolism" sounds more awkward than "metabolism of many dinosaur species".

I vote B

I vote for A.

After concerned you need that. So D and E are gone. Metabolisms in C does not look right. B is wrong because you need a was instead of a were because it refers to the metabolism which is singular.
