Quality of Tulane MBA [#permalink]
30 Aug 2004, 11:38
Does anyone have any views or experiences with Tulane's MBA program?
The school is ranked quite high in most sources I have seen. From my findings, their finance program appears to be very strong and offers unique opportunities through programs like the Burkenroad Reports.
I did a search for Tulane in the forums, but nothing was returned. I am very interested in the Tulane MBA especially from a Financial perspecitve, and was looking for some outside opinions. Thanks for any thoughts and ideas.

What sort of firms / roles are you interested in post-MBA? This will play a large role in what schools you should apply to.

To be honest I am not going into the process with my heart set on particular firms and roles. While I am definitely drawn to the analysis side of finance, and a role with a top firm in that area would be nice, I am looking for a school that has a well rounded curriculum in core classes and the concentration I choose.
I do not plan on going to a particular school for one course of study alone, my decisions and options may change throughout the process. Finance would be a change in career path for me as is, so I do not want to close any doors that could remain open.
I am not necessarily looking for specific responses, any information about Tulane would be very helpful. Information and opinions about the MBA program from sources other than the school were my main goal. Thanks for any responses and help.

Tulane's program would probably be in the "Respected" general reputation cluster. Most observers have probably heard of Tulane in some context in part because of the strength of the parent institution and other professional schools. The school appears to have some good affiliated institutes including those mentioned in your post and permits students to specialize.
However, one might question the return relative to the admissions cost- one who would qualify for admission to Tulane could probably qualify for a number of other schools including Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Rice, SMU, or Wisconisin (among others).
I would inspect the list of students and employers from Tulane carefully to be sure that it includes the types of firms that interest you in a variety of industries. Relative to the admissions stratum, I do not recall this list to have been particularly impressive but I welcome contrasting viewpoints.
