Queries pertaining to essays [#permalink] New post 16 Oct 2004, 07:17
Hi

Discuss an ethical dilemma that you experienced first hand, and how you resolved it?

I had this situation when I was at onsite - Phoenix, USA. We are two guys and only can extend his assignment stay and we both want to stay. And the other guy is a very good friend of mine. Our client had preferred me to my friend for continuing on assignment due to several reasons.
But, I knew my friend wanted to stay more than I did. So, I am now left with two options - either of them seemed wrong in some sense.

If I stay, I will be betraying my friend who had trusted me with his thoughts and if I don't it is tantamount to accepting my incompetence and violating the trust of my superior.

Both these choices seemed morally wrong - but I have to choose one and I had choosen to stay.

Does this experience come under ethical dilemma essay? or am I missing something in the question :)

One more essay ?
How do you define leadership? Take the example of a leader you admire (living or deceased), and indicate the traits you like.

First part is fine, but the problem is with second part - can we choose an unknown person who is in my circle and is a leader or should he be a known personality?

Hi,

RE: Question 1, as currently written this seems to be a better essay of an awkward situation than an ethical dilemma. There might be an ethical dilemma here but it is not readily apparent.

RE: Question 2, writing about an unknown person is OK as long as you explain clearly why you admire that person and why you admire his/her traits.

I think your ethical dilemma example can work. The situation qualifies in my book. You just now have to provide the reasoning you used to resolve it.

You can choose an unknown leader, but you have to explain what traits make you consider him a leader.

Good luck!
