I am in the middle of applying for PhD Strategy programs and had a quick question about gpa.
I got my grades for last semester (mba student - strategy major) and am debating about whether I should submit them. I've already submitted my transcripts which did not include these grades.
For this past semester, my overall gpa was good and pulled up my gpa by about 0.2. However, the class that I got a B+ was a startegy class, which brought down my major GPA. Previously, I had gotten all As in my strategy classes so I am afraid that this would hurt me.
Do you guys think I should still voluntarily submit the updated transcript?
Please help me out here.

I think MBA gpa is relatively unimportant compared to the big factors (sop, gmat, pubs, ug gpa, name value of institutions, particularly undergrad and rigorous master's programs -- sorry, that excludes mba, and you'll understand why when you start your phd). Also, I understand (and so I think profs will as well) the vagaries of grading in mba classes in that they can be highly sensitive to things such as the team component and stupid mistakes because the tests are not too hard. Put it this way. When I talked to profs prior to applying, they'd ask me: where'd you go undergrad? what are you interested in and how did you get interested in those things? do you like research? Out of maybe 6-8 conversations, not a one of them asked me about my MBA. If anything, the bump in gpa might bump you up in some objective ordering of candidates more than the grade in strategy. And if I did care about the grades, I'd look past the strategy grades and look first at your grades in all your quant classes (stats, finance, math/engineering/science classes in your ug). So my advice is a preference towards submitting the update, recognizing that it likely won't make a difference anyhow, unless, for example, the gpa triggers some objective gate.

I concur with bauble... If you don't get in, it wouldn't be because of a B+ grade for a MBA course. (If you get in, it is also not because of a A+ for a MBA course.... unless you get A+ for all your courses. Even then, I think other factors may play a bigger role).

bauble and tkkoh,
loads of thanks for your insights. i totally agree with your logic that there are numerous factors that are much more important than the mba grades. it is just that i am starting to get paranoid about every possible factor, including the mba grades, although they may not count for much. i can't wait for april to come along.
