Question about letters of rec [#permalink] New post 06 Jun 2013, 21:03
1. How do my recommenders send their letters to the school? My guess is that once I start the application, I provide the schools with my recommenders' email address and the school will send instruction. Is this correct?

2. If the school is emailing the instructions to my recommenders, should I provide their work or personnel email? I'm asking this because I work for the government and we have a very strict email filtering system that might block the school emails. But if I provide the schools with personal emails, it might seem less legit.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi CulturalDiversity,

The answers are as follows:

1. This depends on your school. Predominantly, schools prefer email communication with the evaluators (process you mentioned is correct). However, most schools have a provision for a physical letter based recommendations as well. But, please confirm it with each of your selected schools.

2. Again, most schools will insist on a professional email as personal ids are considered less authentic. As for the problem with your organisation wrt mails, my recommendation to you will be to get the process started early. Give the official ids and see if they reach. If they don't, the admissions team will support you as you have a legitimate problem. Extra time in hand will help.

Hope it was useful
