Question about submitting apps [#permalink] New post 24 Nov 2008, 11:59
Hey guys,

I haven't submitted a single app yet and just had a few basic questions about submission.

1) One of my recommenders still hasn't submitted a letter. Can I submit my application without waiting for the last recommender?

2) What happens if a recommender can't make the R2 deadline but I submitted my app a month before the R2 deadline?

3) What about Columbia RD? If I submit my app today but my recommender submits a letter in a week, will my app be read in order based on when I submitted? Or is it based on when all of the required materials are on file?

Thanks a ton. :-D

1) Most apps will let you submit without your recommenders being in. They are all tracked on the same system but the materials are independent of one another. I submitted all my apps with no problem before my recommendations were in.

2) Most schools allow some leeway between when the deadline and receiving your recommendations to be considered for the round in question. I would call the specific school and ask their policy just in case you need to lean on your recommenders to get something in before the deadline. Most of them understand about the recommenders and won't penalize you for that.

3) I haven't dealt with Columbia so I have no idea =]

Hope that was helpful!

Columbia STRONGLY advises you not to submit your app until your recs are in. Otherwise things get messed up. I would listen to them :)

Thanks much. I'll wait with Columbia.

Going to submit H/S/W/MIT.
