I think it's ok to throw it out there, but don't go overboard. You'll sound paranoid, or at least as though you lack imagination.
Most applications ask you why you left your last job - usually in the employment section. So it might look like this:
Company XYZ
July 2003 to present
work duties, stuff and things
Reason for leaving: current position
Company ABC
Jan 1999 to April 2003
work duties, blahblah
Reason for leaving: applied for and received a place in _______ program, which began in July 2003.
You could also briefly mention it in the career progression essay: in April 1999, I was offered ________ rotation, which began the following July. this job was everything I'd dreamed, violin music, soft lighting, lovelylovely.
Or, you might find you have other valuable things to put in your essay, in which case, I wouldn't waste the space. It's ok to not work 24/7. As long as you are an otherwise stand-up person who is not a horrendous job-hopper, I doubt anyone would even notice the break.
