questions involving '0' (zero) [#permalink] New post 29 Jul 2004, 11:47
Hi all,

Can some body throw some light on tricky ques. involving '0'.
I got caught in a couple of ques. involving zero......like

1. What is mod(0) ?...... it should be 0

2. Does GMAT conside '0' as non-negative integer ? I think that is what it should be considered.

3. What is 0^0....... It should be 0.

4. If there is a question of "All Integers.......", and then the given eqn. should be equally applicable to '0' as well....... though sometimes i feel the eqn. may not make sense.....

The flow gets distorted by such simple but tricky questions. :)

Can you guys remember some more such questions involving '0'.

Hope I make some sense here..... though not sure :)

Any more inputs or anybody wants to discuss on this.

TIA.

mod(0) = 0

0 is neither positive nor negative, that is why we tend to
equate equations to 0 as this is the only number that seperate
positives from negatives

0^0 = 0, not 1

I didn't get what you were trying to ask in Q4.

0^0 is not defined,

4th question: An equation that is valid for all the integers should be valid for Zero, the only exception is division, where denominator cannot be Zero.

Guys,

My intention was not to ask the answers of the 4 ques. listed below.
I just wanted to introduce a topic where others have faced these '0' related questions.

As an example,i was wrong in my understanding of 0^0, similarly if others have more such questions involving '0', and they can be discussed over here..... It will be helpful.

Thanks.
