R3 applicants compete with R2? [#permalink]
17 Mar 2007, 12:31
I submitted a couple of R3 apps and now I'm wondering whether, since the rounds typically overlap by a few weeks, the R3 applicants compete with ones from R2. E.g., if the adcom sees a strong applicant in R3, will the school put a good enough but not a rockstar quality R2 applicant on the WL? Anyone have an opinion on this?

I obviously don't know, but I wonder how much time they have to be that strategic? I know that they run around like crazy people this time of year and that some schools, due to the surge in applications, are barely making their notification dates. I can't imagine they're getting to R3 apps in time to make these comparisons. But if they're sitting around buffing their nails, it's probably not a bad idea.

I doubt they do... They work on R2 during R2, and R3 during R3. As R2 decisions get made in the last two weeks prior to decision day, they might start looking at R3s, but they arent going to go back and re-evaluate R2s.
